David William Desmond is the son of Maryanne Trump Barry, a judge, and is therefore the nephew of Donald Trump. Unlike most Trump relatives. Desmond never used his family connections and remained a private man. Instead, he focused his career on neuropsychology and further, comic fiction.

David William Desmond trained at the University of Chicago and later got a PhD in psychology from Fordham. He then went on to do research on how stroke affects memories and dementia. After completing his very specialized research, he pivoted and focused on writing. Desmond wrote a humor column for Palm Beach Daily News and wrote a book series called the Oliver Booth book series. He wrote this series to satirize the high-society life of Palm Beach and Paris. This book series represents a huge shift in Desmond’s research, and by doing this, Desmond sure showed the world that he won’t limit his career.  He did not research how stroke affects memories and dementia just because he is a Trump.

The connection to Trump family members

Maryanne Trump Barry established an independent judicial career after her appointment to the U.S. District Court by Reagan. She was also elevated to the Court of Appeals by Clinton. This was all before her brother became involved in politics. She was first married to David William Desmond Sr. and divorced him after roughly 20 years of marriage. She was later married to John J. Barry, a federal prosecutor.

David Desmond and his wife, Lisa Renee Desmond, owned a home in Palm Beach that was built by David Desmond’s mother. This home was close to Mar a Lago. David William Desmond sold the home in September 2016, two months before his uncle was elected President of the United States.
